RUBEN MORALES TO ASSUME FHE PRESIDENCY
Lame Duck Meyer Sings Swan Song

After much prayer and consideration on their part (and that of many of the rest of us), Ruben and Judy Morales, have volunteered Ruben to take on the leadership of our support group for the next school year. Since a stay-at-home wife assumes much of the burden when a bread-winning husband accepts such service, this had to be a mutual decision. My personal thanks to both of them for being willing to do this. Most of you already know this family who is among the founding members of Forsyth Home Educators. I’m sure that their many years of experience with home-schooling, their patient, even-tempered natures, and their servants’ hearts will fit them well for this role. And my thanks also to the several other staff volunteers who have agreed to continue their positions or accept new ones (mostly enumerated in the April issue), which will help make the president’s burden lighter.

There will be a business meeting at my house (7530 Eppingwood Court, Clemmons, 766-1494) at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 11. At this last business meeting of the 1997-98 school year, a financial statement will be presented and preliminary plans for next year drawn up. Anyone who has ideas, concerns, etc. that need to be aired will have an opportunity to bring them up.

A preliminary overview of our financial records shows that we are in good condition and will close the fiscal year probably about $1000 in the black. Chris and Tammy White have offered to handle the treasury next year (unless someone else is perishing for the opportunity) in addition to their other duties, and this balance should give them a healthy cushion with which to get started. Copying expenses will necessarily be higher next year, as Frank Meyer will no longer be handling this on his employer’s copying machines at an artificially low rate. Any of you who have FHE-related expenses to be reimbursed, please submit them to me ASAP. Likewise, those who have borrowed or rented materials from me please finish up and return them.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers who have filled positions of responsibility this year or who plan to do so next year. Without you all, I could have done little or nothing. As it is, you have all done superlative jobs and I’m sure you’ll continue to do so in the future. You all work together to make FHE what it is. It’s been a pleasure for me to get to know you and to serve alongside you. Surely the Lord is blessing this organization through you.

As for our plans, Frank and I do not anticipate taking any further active role in FHE. Loren completed his diploma last spring, has done well at Forsyth Tech this past year, and will be attending Hillsdale College in Michigan beginning this fall. Frank’s and my lives will be going on to a different stage, as our near-future plans include a move to a rural area near Mount Airy. However, the homeschool group here has become my social group, and I will probably continue to show up for the Kickoff Picnic, Mom’s Nights Out, and some other events. I couldn’t easily just kiss you all good-bye. Besides, I want to see how some of these kids I know so well turn out!
